Bath bombs look simple — and they are — but a few small details make the difference between a magical bath and a slightly underwhelming fizz. If it's your first time using bath bombs with your kids, here's the full playbook.
Step 1: Run the bath first
Fill the tub to your usual level with comfortably warm water — around 37–38°C is the sweet spot for most kids. Warmer water gives a livelier fizz, but comfort comes first. Always drop the bath bomb into a filled tub, not under running water; you'll get a better colour swirl and a longer show.
Step 2: Let your child do the drop
This is the golden rule. The child who drops the bath bomb is invested in the bath. Hand it over, count down from three, and let them release it. The fizzing starts instantly — expect wide eyes.
Step 3: Watch the show (2–4 minutes)
A quality bath bomb takes a few minutes to fully dissolve. The colour spreads, the fizz crackles, and — with our surprise toy bath bombs — the hidden toy gradually emerges from the centre. Resist the urge to break it open early; the slow reveal is the best part. Kids will often narrate the whole thing ("I can see something! It's coming!").
Step 4: The toy reveal
Once the bomb dissolves, the toy floats free. Give it a quick rinse and it joins bath play immediately. Our toys are sized for little hands, but as with any small toy, they're best for ages three and up, and younger bathers should always be supervised — which of course they are in the bath anyway.
Step 5: Bathe as normal
The coloured water is completely fine to wash in — our bombs are made with gentle, skin-safe ingredients and kid-friendly colours designed not to stain skin or tubs. Do your usual wash routine while the good mood lasts.
After the bath: two-minute cleanup
- Drain the tub and give it a quick rinse with the shower head — that's usually all it takes.
- If you spot any colour residue around the waterline, a swipe with a cloth removes it.
- Rinse the new toy and add it to the tub-toy basket.
How often can kids use bath bombs?
For most kids, a few times a week is perfectly fine with gentle formulations. Many families save them for set nights — "bath bomb Friday" — or use them as rewards, which keeps them feeling special. If your child has very sensitive skin, start with one and see how they go; you can also use half a bomb for a gentler introduction.
Storage tips
Bath bombs are activated by moisture, so keep the stash sealed and dry — a container in a cupboard beats an open basket next to the tub. Stored properly, they keep their fizz for many months. (Pro tip: keep them out of sight. A visible stash invites daily negotiations.)
